Everyday Yoga for Everyone : Class 9 – Synergy moving Start at the front of your mat, big toes touching, heels apart. Stand in Mountain pose, inhale and raise your arms up over your head, by your ears. Flex your palms so that your fingers are parallel to the mat. Inhale and exhale here, feel the energy from the ground and push it up, above you. Continuously push, keep a light contraction in your abdomen so your lower back is protected. Inhale, exhale and push, don’t stop pushing. Inhale and on exhale keep your stomach in, bend your knees and sit on an imaginary chair behind you. Keep your arms up, reaching higher, reeving energy from the sky. Bring your spine into a small backbend, look forward and breathe here. Come back to the front of the mat into a neutral position, arms by your side. Inhale and on the exhale step your left foot back, one big step and prepare for Warrior 1: push back into the heel but keep it off the mat, stretch your arms up to touch the sky, flex your palms and push into the air, allowing the energy to flow through you and pushing it up to the sky. Look up in between your palms and breathe. Come up, bend your upper body to the right and place the elbow on the thigh, above the knee. Press into your upper arm and shoulder and reach the left arm up to the sky, receiving energy from the sky. Look up to your palm and breathe. Place both palm down at the front of the mat, inside your right foot and step both feet back. Come into a Plank position: arms parallel to the floor, shoulders over the wrists, torso parallel with the floor. Press the thighs up to the ceiling and the tailbone toward the heels. Breathe and allow your body to receive energy from the ground. Press into your palms and reach the sitting bones up and back toward the heels, coming into Downward facing dog. Contract the abdomen, look towards your knees or to your navel and push the energy toward the sky. Slowly lower your knees to the mat, bring your upper body parallel to the floor and push your chest between your arms and up, coming into Cobra pose. Allow the energy to move from your legs to your hands. Breathe here. Return to Downward facing dog, pressing your weight into your feet and heels. Inhale and on exhale bend the knees, allowing your thighs to move towards your chest, stretching the spine. Slowly lower your knees down, lower your upper body until it becomes parallel to the floor, bring the chest to almost touch the mat then engage your abdomen and push the chest forward and up, in between your palms. Press into your palms and lift the upper body away from the floor. Allow the energy to flow from the top of your head up to the sky. Repeat two more times: move slowly and with control transitioning from Downward facing dog to Cobra.
