Advanced Warning Signs of a Stroke

May 28, 2019 by Mustafa Rangoonwala Leave a Comment

With the frequency of strokes slowly rising, it’s possible that you could be put in the position of having to make informed choices to save the life of a family member or friend. If you take the time to recognize some of the warning signs, you are more likely to be successful when you seek medical attention. This is important because time is a major factor when you’re trying to retain access to the most choices possible. Here are some advanced warning signs of strokes to be aware of.

Transient Ischemic Attacks
One of the most telling signs that you are going to probably have a stroke are transient ischemic attacks. This happens when a small blood clot blocks a passageway to the brain and the brain begins to malfunction. Below are a few examples of TIA that can accurately foreshadow the possibility that you are likely to have a stroke as soon as in a few hours.
●     Slurred Speech – The most immediately recognizable sign that you are going to have a stroke is when you begin to have difficulty speaking. Cases of slurred speech have been well documented, often happening in the middle of a sentence. This can be very jarring to people near the sufferer and if a person is unaware that slurred speech or incoherent babbling are a sign of stroke, then the level of urgency may not be as high as it should be during the incident.
●     Sudden Confusion – Aside from slurred speech, it is possible to become confused to the point of not being able to recall information that is well known to you, such as your place of residence or your job. This temporary condition is a serious sign of impending stroke, and should be handled with patience and care. When someone is disoriented, it won’t accomplish anything to badger them for details. The first priority is always to get them medical attention.
●     Weakness on One Side – The takes place when a blood clot that is lodged in some part of the circulatory system and blocking the blood flow to the brain is preventing the part of the brains that controls that region from operating at full efficiency. This causes the signals sent from the brain to be weaker than normal, and in much the same way, weakens the effectiveness of the command sent.

What is Candida Overgrowth?

May 25, 2019 by Mustafa Rangoonwala Leave a Comment

Candida overgrowth is often responsible for chronic fatigue, digestive issues, mental health changes, and many other ailments. Candida is a fungus that already exists in your body, in the form of yeast. This is what often causes fungal infections in the form of rashes or with yeast infections. However, some people have an overgrowth of the candida in their body, which can lead to other physical and mental changes.

Where Does Candida Overgrowth Come From?
It is important that you understand the candida (yeast) is already in your body. There is nothing wrong with having it; the problem occurs when it starts to grow and can cause other side effects. Candida usually lives in your mouth and intestines, so it can cause anything from oral thrush to gut problems, emotional or behavioral changes, fatigue, and so much more.
The cause of an abundance of candida in your body can come from different sources, but it is more common in people that kill off the good bacteria in their gut. This commonly occurs when you have one too many rounds of antibiotics. Your gut has good and bad bacteria that provides a peaceful balance, but if you lose too much good bacteria, the bad bacteria takes over and can cause a growth of the candida.
Other things that can lead to candida overgrowth include:
Eating too much sugar and refined carbohydrates
Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol
Having a lot of stress in your life
Taking certain medications, like oral contraceptives

Candida overgrowth is a common occurrence that often gets misdiagnosed, and therefore mistreated. Following a Candida-Fighting Diet
For a candida diet, you will be cutting back on sugar and refined carbohydrates, including sweets, bread, potatoes, baked goods, rice, and most grains. Instead, you will replace them with whole, fresh foods like some fruits, vegetables, and lean protein. Try to add in fermented foods, coconut oil, cruciferous vegetables, citrus fruits, and spices like cinnamon and garlic.

This is also a good time to start getting more exercise into your regular routine. Candida overgrowth doesn’t just affect your gut, but your physical health, energy levels, and mood. To combat this, it helps to start getting routine physical activity. You don’t want to make it strenuous just yet, but try to get 20-30 minutes of walking or other simple aerobic exercise a few days a week. This is going to improve your mood and is wonderful for increasing your energy levels.

In addition to changing your diet to help fight off the excess yeast, you also want to promote good bacteria in your gut. The first way to do this is to change your diet of course, including more fermented foods. After that, it is a good idea to take a probiotic, which is filled with good bacteria. You don’t have to take this long-term, but at the very least, take it for a few months to help treat the candida overgrowth.

There are also some behavioral and mood changes that can help when you deal with candida overgrowth that need to be addressed. You might notice that you have heightened anxiety or stress, or that you start stress eating, which means you might teat foods not allowed on a candida diet. You need to get to the root cause of any emotional issues you have. This might already start to cure itself with your candida diet, but some of these issues may have been present before. Talk to a doctor, get therapy if needed, and get regular exercise to help with your mood.
Candida overgrowth is very treatable as long as you stick to your diet and take those probiotics.

What Might Trigger an Autoimmune Disorder?

May 14, 2019 by Mustafa Rangoonwala Leave a Comment

One difficult thing about trying to deal with an autoimmune disorder, is that there can be so many different factors that come into play. This is one of the details that can make it extremely difficult to find out which disorder it may be, let alone how the sickness began in the first place.
Luckily, the research that scientists have been doing over the last 15 years has given a fair amount of insight into what kinds of things to watch for. In the next few paragraphs you’ll see a few examples of might trigger an autoimmune disorder.

Stress, Anger and Anxiety
After a large portion of studies have collected information about the effects of extreme emotions on your health, researchers have discovered that sustained stress can cause damage to your immune system, and can trigger varieties of autoimmune disease. The majority of patients studied and surveyed during these studies reported that the first manifestations of illness took place during emotionally jarring times. Many of these included caring for aging and sick loved ones, financial stress, or the dissolution of marriage.

What’s With Wheat
Gluten
In the last six years, gluten has become somewhat of a four-letter word among those who are newer to the natural health community. Even though there’s a large portion of literature that is devoted to getting people to stop consuming gluten, not very many people understand exactly what gluten is or what its function might be. Gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, rye, and barley among other grains. Some people who experience the effects of autoimmunity might believe that they have celiac disease, but when they’re found to show no signs of the disease they continue to consume gluten. Unfortunately, this could be the beginning of a very serious battle with autoimmune disease. Even food exposed to gluten can be damaging to people who are especially sensitive.

Gluten-free Foods
This might be serious bit of bad news to a lot of people who have been doing their best to avoid gluten, but many of proteins contained in foods such as rice, corn, and oatmeal are very similar to gluten and could also create many of the same symptoms. Keep in mind that not all of these symptoms may manifest the same way, and they can take place outside of the gut. It would be good idea to get blood tests that are focused on figuring out what is going on in your immune system. This would give doctors much clearer information on which they can base a diagnosis.

Things to Avoid When You Have Arthritis

May 7, 2019 by Mustafa Rangoonwala 1 Comment

If your doctor has diagnosed you with arthritis, make sure you don’t make common mistakes others tend to make. The following foods, activities, and bad habits should be avoided if you have this inflammation condition.

Living a Sedentary Lifestyle
The first mistake you might be making if you have arthritis is living a sedentary lifestyle. This is commonly done with people who are struggling with physical pain, but you might actually be hurting yourself more. With arthritis, you need to try to be more physically active, even if very mildly. You don’t need to do marathon training every day and make your joints hurt worse, but gentle activity is highly recommended. This gets your joints moving, making them more flexible and strengthening your muscles. Try gentle exercises like walking and swimming.

Harvard Health – Harvard University
Eating Too Much Salt
Your arthritis pain is from the inflammation in your joints, so in order to reduce the inflammation, you really need to watch what you eat. One of the first changes you should make to your diet is cutting out as much salt as you possible can. Salt can increase both inflammation and swelling, both of which are commonly associated with arthritis and the pain that comes with it. Try not to add any extra salt to your food and be careful about pre-packaged foods that already contain a lot of salt.
Similar to not eating a lot of salt, you also need to be careful with overly processed foods that contain a lot of fat and very little nutrients. You aren’t just avoiding these because of the sodium content, though that is definitely something to be concerned about, but also because fried and fattening foods are not good for your weight or your joints. Since keeping your weight under control is high up on the list for treating arthritis the natural way, you don’t want to add to the risk of gaining weight or not being able to lose weight.

Not Listening to Your Doctor
Make sure when you have arthritis, you are also listening to your doctor’s recommendations. While there are definitely some things you can do on your own, you should not rely only on them and avoid what your doctor tells you. It is totally fine to use a combination of medical and natural remedies until you figure out what works best for your unique situation.
