It isn’t worth the risk since you are using to help not hurt. For that reason, you should dilute all oils with a carrier oil – which will be discussed in a later section.

Where to Put the Oils

After you have properly diluted your essential oils, you then need to decide where to put them. You might have one area of your skin you prefer or one area with ailments like skin conditions or joint pain, so naturally, you know the location. However, for daily and overall wellness, use them in the following areas:

  • On your temples
  •  Behind your ears
  •  On your upper and lower back
  •  On top of your head or forehead
  •  On your abdomen
  •  At your neck
  •  On your collarbone
  •  Underneath your nose

Inhalation

On Your Pillow

An easier method is to add oils to a spray bottle with distilled water and a carrier oil, then spray it onto your pillow. Every night when you go to bed, you have the spritzed oils that you will be inhaling as you sleep soundly. This is great when you suffer from insomnia, where you can use scents like lavender and rose.

Using a Diffuser

Lastly, you can do inhalation aromatherapy with an essential oil diffuser. They are very convenient, easy to use, and don’t require the use of carrier oils. With a diffuser, you just place a few drops of your oils or blends on top of the diffuser bowl, turn it on, and inhale deeply. You can sit as close to it as you want, or just to use it for regular use, turn it on in any room of your house and go about your business.

Lavender

Moving onto the floral essential oils, there is a fan favourite, which is lavender. Lavender is calming, relaxing, and soothing. When applying essential oils to your skin, whether directly or in the bath, you must dilute it first with a carrier oil.

Why Carrier Oils?

Pure essential oils are very strong and pungent, and often much too concentration for direct skin contact. They affect different people in different ways, but you don’t really know until you see how your skin reacts. To be safe, everyone should dilute them with a carrier oil, not just water.

What Carrier Oils are Used?

The carrier oil is a type of vegetarian oil that will have a positive effect on diluting the essential oil, without affecting its smell or potency. These are natural derivatives, so they will still ensure you are using the oils naturally for aromatherapy purposes.

Types of Carrier Oils

Here is a list of the most common carrier oils used with essential oils:

  1. Grapeseed oil
  2.  Sweet almond oil
  3.  Coconut oil
  4.  Jojoba oil
  5.  Olive oil

Grapeseed Oil

The reason grapeseed oil is a fan favourite is because of how versatile it is for a carrier oil. This is a lighter consistency, making it better when diluting your oils to be added to water like in the bath. It will leave a glossy sheen to your skin, so again, it is great for bath aromatherapy sessions. Grapeseed is a moisturizing oil as well, but it has a shorter shelf life, so it needs to be used up pretty fast.

Sweet Almond Oil

Another carrier oil you will enjoy for your aromatherapy oils is sweet almond oil. This is more of medium consistency and has vitamin E, so it is great for the skin. Since it is from almonds, do not use this if you have a nut allergy. Sweet almond oil absorbs quickly in the skin and has a slightly nutty smell. You can use it for just about every purpose when it comes to diluting your essential oils.

Jojoba Oil

Last but certainly not least is jojoba oil. This is another carrier oil with a medium consistency that has a smell a little bit nuttier than the other options. The benefit of jojoba oil is that it is extremely moisturizing for your skin and hair, and absorbs into the skin without being greasy. It also has a long shelf life in comparison to other carrier oils.

6. Tips for Essential Oil Beginners

By now, you have all the most important information you need about using essential oils for aromatherapy and getting both mental and physical health benefits. However, there are a few more tips you might need if you are new to using essential oils.

Always Use Carrier Oils

We just went over carrier oils – but it bears repeating. Never, under any circumstances, use pure essential oils directly on your skin. There is no telling what the reaction will be with something this concentrated. Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, it could burn, irritate, inflame, or swell your skin. 

Make sure you are diluting your essential oils properly with the carrier oils, though you can mix and match with different combinations when it comes to what carrier oil you use.

One thing to note: if you are getting essential oil blends, they are sometimes diluted with carrier oils, but not always. Don’t assume it is going to have its carrier oils just because it is a blend. Look at the label very carefully, so you know how to handle it best.

Practice Safety with the Oils

There are more safety precautions to keep in mind. Since the oils are not safe for your skin, you should be careful not to get the drops on your fingertips or hands when working with them. Even if you are adding a few drops to a pot of water for steam inhalation, try not to touch the oils too much with your hands.

Another important tip for people who are new to using essential oils is to not confuse them with fragrance oils. Fragrance oils are what are used for perfume or cologne – these are NOT pure essential oils. While you can use them for DIY products in your home that smells good, they won’t have any healing benefits for topical or inhalation aromatherapy.

This is another case where reading labels is going to help you a lot. Look for the term “pure essential oil” and never “fragrance oil”. 

Avoid Direct Sunlight with the Oils

Lastly, you don’t want to keep the oils out in the direct sunlight or use them on your patio with the sun beating down on your skin. They work best when kept in a cool, dark place, such as in the cabinet in your kitchen or bathroom. 

If you are driving home with the oils, keep them underneath a seat or in your trunk, not on the passenger seat if you are going to be parked for hours with the oils. They might lose their potency, and the smell will be a little off.

I have four of these, and they are very good humidifiers. Even with an entire home humidifier in one oven, our home humidity levels would drop to the 10% range during periods of cold weather when both gas ovens operated frequently. This caused our wood floors to shrink, along with itchy dry skin and static electricity that occurs with low humidity. Adding another humidifier built into the second oven is not an option due to space where it is installed. So initially I bought three of these to put in different rooms. Running nonstop high for a few days, they raised the humidity of the entire house to a low range of 30%, so I added a room to the loft area above the great room. The house now averages 35 to 50% humidity, depending on the furnace operating frequency, which is perfect. I can easily reduce your dial output setting when less is needed.
When I run at high altitude, I usually have to refill the 6-liter tanks twice a day, once in the morning and then before bed. At lower settings, once a day is sufficient.

They are almost silent. We don’t hear them running at all. No leakage and directional guidance allowed us to configure them to fly away from walls and furniture. My only wish is that they can be filled from the top or have a handle to transport the tank. It can be awkward and cumbersome when the tank is full and trying to transport it from the sink to the unit.

Usually, I have to hug him with both arms and he will get water droplets on my shirt, and then it will drip on the floor when I flip it over to put it on the unit. The top padding would have been ideal. I have to bring a hand towel to fill and clean the drops from the wooden floors. But otherwise, they have never leaked, the water is just from having to flip the tank to place it on the base.

I really like the LED-lit water level window. It is very easy to see when they need to be filled. I haven’t tried the little drawers of essential oils, so I have no opinion.Overall, I am very happy with these. Quality was consistent across all four. They work. They fixed our moisture issue, and life is so much better when you don’t want to scratch the skin on your legs every day from dry air.

Can You Get Pink Eye From A Fart?

Have you ever heard the saying that farting on a pillow can cause red eyes? I was never sure if this was true. My friend’s brother farted on his pillow one night, and a few days later, he had a pink eye. We weren’t sure if this was just ironic or if his farting on the pillow was true.

Pink eye

The pink eye is medically known as conjunctivitis. This is also known as inflammation of the outermost layer of your eyeball (the conjunctiva). This is usually the result of a virus, bacteria, or an allergic reaction. The difference is that a viral or bacterial cause of pink eye is contagious. The pink eye of an allergic reaction is not. Most of the time, in children, it is transmitted by hand-eye contact. This includes a child who has a pink eye that touches a toy and passes it to another child. The children may not have touched each other, but they did touch common objects. Also, if the birth mother of a baby being born has gonorrhea or chlamydia, the child is also likely to have conjunctivitis. The mother can prevent this from happening by getting vaccinated.

Pink Eye is not for farting on pillows

The myth that farting pillows can cause pink eye is NOT TRUE. Most pink eyes can be the result of poor hygiene. By not washing your hands or face daily, this can cause random forms of bacteria or viruses to enter your body. We touch our hands a lot, even when we don’t know it. By not washing our hands, we are applying harmful substances to our faces. If we do not wash our faces frequently, the bacteria that ingest our faces throughout the day, could accumulate and become something like conjunctivitis. Also, the gases that are likely to come out of our farts are gases like methane. These will not cause conjunctivitis.

There is very little chance of fart conjunctivitis occurring on a pillow. If a person does not wear any type of underwear, such as underwear or pants, then farts are thrown on the pillow, certain bacteria can transfer to the face or eye. This would mean that the person cannot wear any type of pants or underwear that would fart on the pillow and would immediately have to lay their head on the pillow for a certain period of time. I’m telling you to lay your head down on the pillow right away because bacteria die quickly when you don’t have a host. Our pillow does not host bacteria or viruses. Yes, our farts may contain bacteria that can be transferred to our pillow, but this will not remain on our pillow for long. Eighty percent of bacteria are found in our large intestine. If that bacteria from our large intestine comes out in our farts, it could reach the pillow, as I said before.

If the person is clothing, they have nothing to worry about, and there is no way they will get the pink eye of someone farting on the pillow. Gases and bacteria cannot be transferred through clothing.
There have been no reliable experiments on the pink eye. However, scientists are sure of their causes and solutions.

So after all this, if someone farts on his pillow, especially with his clothes on, don’t be afraid he’s fine and doesn’t have pink eyes. If someone thinks it’s fun and farts on the pillow with nothing covering your butt, then consider changing your pillowcase just in case. Also, always wash your hands and face; you never know what bacteria might be on your hands or the things you touch.

You CAN’T get pink eye from farts

The myth that farting pillows can cause conjunctivitis is not true.

You CAN have the pink eye of poop

Poop, or more specifically, bacteria or viruses in poop, can cause pink eye.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Trusted Source, if your hands contain stool and touch your eyes, you may get a pink eye.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends avoiding touching the anus directly and then directly touching the eye. It could transfer bacteria that can cause bacterial conjunctivitis, a common form of conjunctivitis.

Common causes of conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis or conjunctivitis is an infection or inflammation of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the transparent membrane that covers the white part of your eyeball and covers your eyelid.

To control the transmission of conjunctivitis, practice good hygiene, such as:

  • wash hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom
  • avoiding touching your eyes
  • throw away used contact lenses from pink eye contraction
  • using clean wipes and towels daily
  • avoid sharing clothes, towels, personal items for eye care or cosmetics
  • changing their pillowcases frequently

Flatulence is the passage of intestinal gas through the rectum. Gas can generally originate from intestinal bacteria that work on undigested food or in ingested air.

Most humans pass gas (fart) a minimum of 14 times a day, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Although not as common, certain medications can cause gas, such as the drug orlistat (Xenical), which is used to help maintain a healthy weight.

The medicine cholestyramine (Questran), which is used to treat high cholesterol, can also cause gas.

Flatulence can also be a symptom of giardiasis (a parasitic infection) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Essential oils have long been used in traditional folk medicine. After decades of modern medicine, they are making a comeback. Still, more research is needed to determine the effectiveness of essential oils.

Important: Essential oils are not safe or effective against conjunctivitis. You should never put essential oils in or around the eyes.

What does Research Say About Essential Oils For Pink Eye?

Many essential oils have powerful healing properties. They have been used for thousands of years to treat bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. Many essential oils also have anti-inflammatory properties.

However, there is currently no scientific evidence to suggest that essential oils may help conjunctivitis. You should never put essential oils directly on your eye.

Application of essential oils for pink eye

Essential oils are highly concentrated and should never be used in or around the eyes. Even when diluted, essential oils can cause burning, pain, and irritation.

The only way to use essential oils for conjunctivitis is to diffuse them in steam. You can add essential oils to a humidifier. You can also add a few drops in a small pot of boiling water, letting the steam gently reach your face.

Common medicinal essential oils include:

  • tea tree oil
  • myrrh oil
  • eucalyptus oil
  • clove oil
  • lavender oil
  • peppermint oil
  • Roman chamomile oil

If you accidentally get the essential oil in your eye, use a mild carrier oil to remove it. Water and oil don’t mix well, so washing your eyes with water may not be helpful. Instead, put coconut or olive oil on a soft cloth and wipe your eyes.

Coconut oil treatment

Allow them to cool to warm or chill in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes. Once the bags have cooled, place them over closed eyes for 15 to 30 minutes. Never put hot tea bags on your eyes.

Essential oils for Pink Eye  in young children and Toddlers

Do not use essential oils to treat conjunctivitis in young children or babies.

Newborns with conjunctivitis should be treated immediately by a doctor. Bacterial infections in the eyes of a newborn can be very serious.

Conjunctivitis is common in young children and often spreads rapidly through daycare and classrooms. Viral conjunctivitis does not require treatment, but your child’s doctor may recommend antibiotic drops or artificial tears.
